Research into web browser security has acted as a catalyst for more depth research into Inter-Protocol Communication, an attack vector that potentially allows arbitrary protocols to meaningful interact with each other.
In the past, it has been assumed that communication between different protocols is invalid and of no consequence, this paper will demonstrate that when a particular set of preconditions are met, communication between two distinct protocols is possible and significant.
Discussion will focus almost exclusively on using a web browser as a client for Inter-Protocol Communication but this does not mean that other protocols’ implementations won’t be capable of Inter-Protocol Communication.
