Emerging technologies, expanding regulatory pressures, and the continuing innovation of threat actors are shaping a future where security and resilience are more critical than ever.

Our experts have shared their thoughts on the key topics and trends that will define the years ahead in cyber security. These insights aim to inspire action and preparation as we confront a world of rapid disruption and boundless potential. Whether you’re steering a business, shaping policy, or enhancing personal security, the future is here—and it’s moving fast.

Green-by-design: Securing a sustainable digital future

Sian John, Chief Technology Officer:

In 2024, we yet again saw a record weather year that can be tracked to climate change – and with this, came a devastating impact on communities. Although politically we are still working on the policy changes needed to make Net Zero targets real, there is a broader desire to be “more green” in what we do, both to reduce the impact on the climate and reduce the power costs of what we are trying to achieve.

The carbon costs of AI are now being realised with the aim of making them more efficient and less power hungry, as well as using renewable and efficient / cheaper sources of energy. This will drive two trends, namely:

  • The need to optimise our models to be energy efficient
  • The need to ensure that we secure the critical national infrastructure needed to generate renewable energy.

In this, the message is clear: we need to be both secure-by design and green-by-design.
