NCC Group interviewed for Forrester’s European Cybersecurity Threats 2024 report

09 October 2024

NCC Group is proud to have been interviewed for Forrester’s 2024 European Cybersecurity Threats report.

Among others, Matt Hull, Global Head of Threat Intelligence, shared NCC Group’s latest Threat Pulse reports and his insights and observations with the Forrester team.

The Forrester report states that, “European organizations grapple with sector-specific vulnerabilities and systemic gaps while navigating geopolitical and cultural tensions like their global counterparts.”

The report outlines evolving cyber espionage tactics amid regional tensions, the rise in disinformation and deception and its potential to erode trust in institutions, the increased use of personal data theft to fine-tune AI models, the expanding attack surface as a result of supply chain attacks, and the interconnectedness of IT and OT amidst the continued ROI of traditional attack methods.

To address the evolving threat landscape, the report highlights the importance of fixing the basics, from patch management to asset visibility; identifying and monitoring risk contextually and continuously; and enhancing threat intelligence, particularly for critical industries and sectors.

Commenting on the research, Matt Hull, Global Head of Threat Intelligence at NCC Group, said:

“It is reassuring to see so many of our own observations reflected in Forrester’s threats report.  Across NCC Group’s threat intelligence work, we are indeed seeing an increased targeting of OT and ICS environments, and expect that to intensify, particularly across critical infrastructure sectors like energy, utilities, and manufacturing.

“We routinely advise organisations to get their basics right to reduce the risk of falling victim to large-spread, non-targeted attacks.

“While government and industry-led action to build secure-by-design and secure-by-default hardware and software technologies will, in due course, harden the attack surface for cyber criminals, it is crucially important to take a comprehensive and holistic view to cyber resilience that focuses both on minimising successful attacks and enabling effective recovery after successful attacks.”
